Counting Down

If my math is correct, we have about 14 hours before we officially say Goodbye to 2010 and say Hello to a bright, shiny, new 2011. I, for one, am beyond excited. I love love love New Year's Day. There's just something about a clean calendar to fill with adventure, a clean slate, a fresh start on all those resolutions we may or may not keep. It's possibility, it's opportunity, it's optimism. And I love it!

But before we get to the love of tomorrow, take a moment today to look back through 2010. Flip through the calendar on your refrigerator (or for those of you, unlike me, who have abandoned paper, give the ol' Blackberry a scroll).... I'll wait.... I'll be here when you get back.....

What did you see that makes you smile? If you're proud of someone, call them and tell them you love them.

What did you see that makes you remember? If someone was there with you when you had "the best day ever", call them today to tell them how much they matter.

What do you see that reminds you that you've possibly overlooked or wronged someone? If you find that, please take the time today to make a phone call to fix it. There's nothing more heavy than carrying old baggage into a new year!

Today's the day to look back, celebrate what we got right, correct what we got wrong, and then turn sharply toward 2011 and run, don't walk, bravely and boldly into a fantastic new year!

Whatever your plans to ring in the New Year, have a great time and make tonight the first night that gives you... Something More!

Welcome to My World

"To live is the rarist thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." ~ Oscar Wilde

That, my friends, is my 2011 New Year's Resolution- to move beyond existing into LIVING. The kind of living that results in great stories; the kind of living that makes it OK to leave the dishes in the sink or the laundry unfolded on the couch; the kind of living that makes you smile from your front porch rocker at the retirement center as you remember "that time we....."

I have a great life (and you probably do too!) but I could use a little reminder that there is a lot going on outside the walls of this house (and you probably could too!). This blog, if all goes well, will be a glimpse into the little things (and sometimes perhaps the big things) that make me laugh, or wonder, or say, "I should have done that 10 years ago." Maybe I'll introduce you to a new band. Maybe I'll review a book you never read but should have. Maybe I'll convince you to do something crazy for a charity fundraising event. I don't know exactly where we'll finish but I know it'll be someplace more enriched than where we start because you never know when the thing you did on a whim will be your greatest passion.

When you don't want to go back through where you've been and you aren't sure of what lies ahead and you're stuck in a little rut, there has to be: Something More or Something Else. So, let's go find it!
